Carol-Montag

Bio

Carol was born in Ames, Iowa to a master well digger and stay at home mom. The family home was filled with music and her mother made sure that Carol and her four siblings took piano lessons. She began singing and performing music at an early age in church, where she grew to love the traditional hymns and liturgical songs. Always imagining she was on a grand stage, she sang and danced most of the way through her early childhood. In addition to her piano lessons, Carol studied flute during middle school and in high school, she learned to play her sister’s guitar by ear while listening to such folk legends as Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, and Joan Baez. Carol was motivated to save money and by her senior year she purchased her first guitar.

Attending college at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa Carol played with several acoustic bands. After relocating to Cedar Rapids, Iowa she landed her first paid gigs at a local Mexican restaurant. Performances at colleges, coffeehouses, house concerts, churches, music festivals, and live radio shows were soon to follow. Carol has opened for, or appeared with, such greats as Arlo Guthrie, Tom Paxton, Kenny Rankin, John Stewart and Three Dog Night to name just a few. She’s recorded four solo albums including 1984’s Song for Carrie, 1987’s White, 2001’s Marigolds, and 2012’s Second Sermon. She’s also recorded two Christmas albums with the trio Tribute.

In the early 1990s, Carol was commissioned by Ballet Iowa to write songs for a ballet about a farm family in crisis. The work was titled “Swallows Return in the Spring.” Carol toured the midwest performing live with the ballet company. While performing at a private party in Washington, DC, Carol was invited to sing at the 2010 World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony by the World Food Prize president and former ambassador to Cambodia, Kenneth Quinn. Past performers at the ceremony include such notables as John Denver, Ray Charles, and Simon Estes. As a fixture on the Iowa music scene, Carol continues to both record new material and perform on a regular basis. Much of Carol’s great body of work is now available from Fervor Records.

Bopert Davidson and his Combo-Nation

Prolific guitarist/composer Robert “Bopert” Davidson was a staple on the NYC Jazz scene throughout the 70s and 80s. He gigged with such luminaries as Charles “CP” Roth, and Glenn McCellend (of Ween fame), and recorded at the legendary Vanguard Studios. Aside from fronting his exceptional Jazz outfit, Bopert Davidson and his Combo-Nation, Mr. Davidson was also a member of the avant-garde band Acqueous Fowle, and the host/director of “The Summer Intime Cabarets” at Princeton University, where he shared the stage with up and comers of all varieties, including magicians Penn & Teller. Fervor Records is proud to bring you “Bopert Davidson And His Combo-Nation” a collection of the guitarist’s superb Jazz recordings from the 1970s.

Bio

In the mid 1990s Meerkats rose to local prominence in the Midwestern college town of Iowa City, Iowa. The band combined their Indie Rock sound with tendrils in Punk, Surf, and Garage Rock. Meerkats featured singer/guitarist Brook Hover, bassist Joel McDowell, guitarist Kyle Oyloe, and drummer Eric Marshall. The band gigged steadily throughout the area and were known for the occasional incendiary performance… especially their unforgettable show near a swamp when a fire broke out on stage. Meerkats churned out two CDs during their short career, 1996’s “Curse of the Hearse” and 1997’s “Enemy Planet.” Sadly, Marshall and Oyloe have passed away, but Meerkats’ legacy lives on at Fervor Records.

BillyLee-Janey

Bio

Midwest powerhouse BillyLee Janey is a gifted guitarist, vocalist and prolific songwriter. He’s achieved great success as both a solo artist and as a collaborator in his bands Truth and Janey, The Janeys, The BillyLee Janey Band, and with his son Bryce for the better part of six decades. The veteran guitarist got his start in 1966 as part of a trio that made $40 to play a YMCA in his native Iowa. BillyLee parlayed that experience into a lifelong career in music.

In 1969 BillyLee formed the much heralded Hard Rock trio Truth and Janey. The band released their first 45 in 1972 and in 1976 self-released the highly acclaimed LP “No Rest For The Wicked.” Truth and Janey gigged relentlessly, ultimately finding themselves touring with the likes of Leslie West and Blue Oyster Cult. The group released two additional LPs and original Truth and Janey vinyl is highly prized by collectors the world over. The band was inducted into the Iowa Rock n’ Roll Association’s Hall of Fame in 2005.

Next up were The Janeys, active from 1990 into the 2000s. The trio was a family affair featuring BillyLee’s wife, drummer Jerri Janey, and their son, Bryce (guitar). With three CD releases to their name, The Janey’s brought the family Blues jam to life playing shows around the Midwest.

BillyLee also forged a successful solo career releasing nine solo CDs. He’s been inducted into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame, has five Grammy entry mentions in Jazz, Pop, and Blues, and has shared the stage with the likes of Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, U2, The Police, Savoy Brown, Johnny Winter, Koko Taylor, Junior Wells, Lonnie Brooks, and John Mayall to name just a few. BillyLee Janey is a force to be reckoned with and Fervor Records is proud to have him in our ranks!

Bio

Midwest guitarist/singer/songwriter Roger LaBarge’s musical journey began at age 6 when his grandmother gave him the option of studying drums or accordion. Roger chose the latter. By 19 he picked up bass guitar but soon switched to 6 string. LaBarge was a natural and quickly gravitated to the instrument. The young guitarist soon caught the ear of Jazz horn player Del Clayton who invited Roger to join his Del Clayton Quartet on tour. LaBarge eventually found his way to San Francisco and gigged regularly in the Bay Area. In 1975 Roger landed back in his hometown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he got serious about songwriting. Roger gigged steadily and continued to hone his craft. In 1980, backed by an investor, Roger entered the studio with 9 songs and some of the Midwest’s finest session players to record his first LP. Unfortunately for Roger the investor went bankrupt and the record was shelved. Fast forward to 2022 when Fervor Records catches wind of the story. The label gives the talented artist and his 1981 recordings new life releasing the long overdue album “If I Had My Way.” Roger still writes, records and keeps a full gig calendar with his equally talented daughter Mandy performing throughout the Midwest. Experience Roger LaBarge “If I Had My Way” on Fervor Records across Apple Music, Amazon Music. Spotify and beyond!

Bio

Formed in 1968 in Lakewood, Ohio, Bridge was fronted by the talented black female vocalist Judy Spencer and backed by Denny Earnest: guitar & vocals, Billy Earnest: B3 & piano, Al Dennis: bass, and Bob Bensick: drums. In 1968 they performed with Canned Heat and MC- 5 at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit. They opened for Jeff Beck (with Rod Stewart, Ron Wood) at the LaCave in Cleveland, and both BB King and Blood Sweat & Tears (with Al Cooper) at the Grande Ballroom in Cleveland.
